Eva Hornyakova, Soprano

Eva was born in Levoca, Slovakia and studied opera singing at the Conservatory of Music, Kosice, with Ludmila Somorjaiova. Later, at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Bratislava Eva attended Zlatica Livorova’s class. After graduating from the Academy, Eva attended Master classes taught by Peter Dvorsky and Zlatica Livorova.

In 2002, at the M. Sch. Trnavsky competition, Eva was awarded a special prize for her excellent vocal interpretation of song. In 2004, Eva took first prize in the Imrich Godin competition in Vrable, Slovakia. Eva then began slovak interpretive scenes as the protagonist in many vocal/instrumental pieces from modern Slovak composer Vitazoslav Kubicka. In the pastoral messas Znovuzrodenie, Eva performed the main role of Angel. In author´s next piece she sang the part of Katarina von Bora in the opera Martin Luther, and also sang in Kubicka’s Requiem in Kosice under conductor Peter Feranec and she sang in International Music Festival Smetana´s Litomyšl.

Eva debuted in 2006 at the Opera of Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava with role La Contessa Almaviva in Mozart’s opera Le Nozze di Figaro. That same year she reached the semi-finals at Competizione dell´Opera in Dresden, Germany. Eva appeared again in April 2007 at the Slovak National Theatre singing Echo in the new modern production of Strauss´s opera Ariadne auf Naxos.

Her subsequent role, Mimi, in Puccini´s La Bohéme was followed by great success under conductor Oliver von Dohnanyi, reaching the finals in the following International Singing Competitions in Bayreuthe, Germany; world-reknown competition of Hans Gabor Belveder, Vienna; and Maria Callas Grand Prix 2009, Athens. Eva gave yet another inspired interpretation of Puccini’s Mimi in La Coruňa, Spain, Staadstheatre Braunschweig, Germany, State opera in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, Pafos Opera Festival 2010 Cyprus and in international production for tour cross Japan during September and October of 2010.

Eva’s Mařenka in Smetana’s opera Prodaná nevěsta/The Bartered bride, cast in modern form by Pavel Mikuláštik and conductor Rastislav Štúr in Slovak National Theatre, was a excellent production. During summer 2009 she sang Mařenka on Opern Air festival  in Austrian Gars am Kamp. She continue with roles Pamina /Mozart-The Magic flute with Friedrich Haider conductor, Donna Elvira /Mozart-Don Giovanni/, Marquerite /Gounod-Faust/ in production of renowned stage director Gintaras Varnas for new production of Slovak National Theater in season 2009/2010. Eva was contestant of Operalia 2010 in Milan, La scala, Italy.

In next time she prepare Micaela in Bizet´s Carmen, Nedda in Leoncavallo´s Pagliacci for Slovak National Theatre. She will sing at January 2011 second concert with tenorist David Lomelli in Zlín with Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic, Czeh republic and Janáček´s The Eternal Gospel in Janáček´s Theatre Brno.

In addition to her theatrical operatic roles, Eva is a well-known performer in concerts, both at home and abroad
